How to Fix a Frozen Ice Cube Maker

A frozen ice cube maker happens primarily because the inlet, or the fill tube that connects to the ice maker, freezes. A frozen fill tube may have other causes including slow water flow due to low water pressure, improper installation or a clogged filter. But occasionally the line may freeze for no apparent reason. Thaw the line before using the ice maker again, and look for additional problems if the tube continues to freeze repeatedly. It's also beneficial to thaw the tube before you remove it for repairs as the tubing will tear when removed in its frozen state.

Instructions

1)Turn off the refrigerator and unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet.

2) Remove the ice bucket from the freezer and any pieces of ice still in the ice maker. Most ice makers have a door or chute you can lift up to access the interior to remove the ice.

3) Locate the water fill tube that connects to the ice maker. Some tubes are located behind a piece of housing while others are behind the ice maker. Most models have retaining clips you press to remove the housing or ice maker.

4) Moisten a towel with hot water and wrap it around the hose. Wait for about 10 minutes.

5) Feel the tube to see if it is soft and free of ice. If it is not, moisten the towel again with hot water and wrap it around the tube again.

6) Replace any ice maker parts you remove, plug the refrigerator in and turn it on.
